




Alathur:
A two-day Short-Term Training Programme on GIS and Mobile Mapping will be conducted at Sree Narayana College, Alathur, on 15 and 16 December 2025, from 10.00 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. at the college Computer Lab.
The programme is organized by the Land Use Department, Government of Kerala, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), NSS Units 37 and 117, and the Department of Environment and Water Management of Sree Narayana College, Alathur. The college is affiliated to the University of Calicut and is reaccredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade.
The training aims to provide hands-on exposure to Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and mobile-based field mapping techniques, with special emphasis on practical applications in land use planning, environmental studies, and spatial data analysis.
The first day of the programme will feature sessions on Introduction to GIS, Geo-referencing of raster data, Digitization of thematic layers, Geometric and geoprocessing tools, and QGIS mobile applications, including the creation of geo-packages for mobile use.
The second day will focus on practical field mapping using Q-Field, importing mapped data into QGIS, rectification, map setting, and interaction with participants.
The programme is coordinated by Dr. Kavitha C, Assistant Professor (Contract), Department of Environment and Water Management, Sree Narayana College, Alathur. The organizing committee includes officials from the Land Use Department, Thrissur, faculty members, and NSS programme officers of the college.
The training is expected to benefit students, researchers, and faculty members by enhancing their technical skills in modern geospatial tools and mobile mapping technologies.
