The International Conference titled “AETHERIA: Colonial Historiography: Language, Gender and Performance in Early Modern Keralam” took place on 18 September 2026, organized by the Post Graduate Department of English at Sree Narayana College, Alathur, in academic collaboration with the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. Hosted under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Institutional Knowledge Systems (IKS), the proceedings brought together scholars, researchers, faculty members, and students to examine how European colonial mechanisms reshaped the socio-political, linguistic, and cultural fabric of early modern Keralam. The organizational leadership was directed by Sri. Vellappally Natesan as Patron and Manager, Dr. Praveena Vijayan as Principal, and Ms. Remya Rajan E as Convener and Head of the Department of English, alongside coordinators Dr. Poornima P. L. and Ms. Kalyani Shaji, and faculty members across the departments.
The inaugural session commenced with Ms. Remya Rajan E delivering the welcome address. Dr. Praveena Vijayan delivered the presidential address, and Sri. K. R. Gopinath, Executive Member of S N Trusts, delivered the inaugural address. The session proceeded with a Keynote Address by Sri. A. N. Anurag (RDC Convenor), a Special Address by Ms. Saranya Chandran, and felicitations by Dr. Sowmya C. S. (Senate Member, Calicut University) and Ms. Vijayasree (College Union Vice Chairperson). The inaugural phase concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Poornima P. L.
Technical Session I featured a plenary lecture by Ms. Saranya Chandran, Research Scholar at Central European University, Vienna, and Visiting Fellow at the Mar Chrysostom Chair, MG University, Kottayam. Technical Session II was held with an expert presentation by Dr. Sreeja G., Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English at NSS College, Nemmara.
There were participants from various colleges and other states and countries too. Paper presentations sessions were held in offline and online mode. Ms. Kalyani Shaji delivered the Valedictory Address, bringing the academic deliberations to a formal close.
