The P G Department of English, and Canara Bank, Alathur in association with the Library committee organized a Banking Services Awareness Program for the students from the Department of English and Commerce on 14/09/2026 at Gurukripa Hall. Sri. Ramesh Venugopal , Financial Literacy Councellor, Canara Bank Alathur and Sri. Ravikumar Senior Manager, Canara Bank, Alathur were the resource persons. The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Poornima P.L, Associate Professor in the Department of English. Ms. Remya Rajan E, Head of the Department of English presided over the function. During the session the resource persons introduced students to how financial institutions manage money, process transactions, and provide essential economic support. Students also learnt core concepts like opening savings or checking accounts, depositing funds, and understanding how banks earn interest on saved money or charge interest on loans.

The session also explored modern digital tools, including mobile banking apps, debit cards, and electronic fund transfers. The program also introduced the ways by which fraudsters function and siphon huge amounts from people’s accounts by demanding OTPs from them. By studying these daily operations, and being aware of cyber frauds, students gained practical financial literacy skills that will prepare them to manage personal budgets and navigate the modern economy safely. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Sona, student of first year MA English.
