The Department of Mathematics of Sree Narayana College, Alathur, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), is set to organize an “Orientation in Mathematics” programme for first-year UG and PG students on 8 September 2026 (Tuesday) at 10.30 a.m. at Gurukripa Hall.
The programme is intended to provide newly admitted students with an introduction to the academic environment of higher education and help them develop a better understanding of the scope and importance of Mathematics in their undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
Narayana Prasad M, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Government College, Chittur, will be the speaker for the programme. He is expected to share insights that will help students approach the subject with greater confidence and develop interest in mathematical learning.
The programme will be conducted under the guidance of Dr. Praveena Vijayan, Principal, V. Devadas, Head of the Department of Mathematics, and Dr. Dhiva S., IQAC Coordinator. Sucharitha R. S. will serve as the programme coordinator, with the support of the organizing committee comprising Krishnaprabha R., Vaishnavi S., Nandana K. Vasudevan, Archana S. and Aiswarya K.
The orientation programme is expected to provide an encouraging beginning for first-year students and help them become familiar with the academic expectations and opportunities associated with higher studies in Mathematics.
The Department of Mathematics at Sree Narayana College has also been actively conducting academic orientation programmes and enrichment activities for students. The college’s mathematics department has previously organized orientation programmes on topics such as calculus and has continued to promote subject-based academic development. (SN College Alathur)

The Department of Mathematics, Sree Narayana College, Alathur, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized an “Orientation in Mathematics Programme for First Year UG and PG students” on 8 September 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Gurukripa Hall. The programme was organized with the objective of welcoming the newly admitted students and providing them with a meaningful introduction to higher education in Mathematics. The orientation was intended to help students understand the nature and scope of their chosen programme, become familiar with the academic environment, and develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards the study of Mathematics.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Sucharitha R S, the Programme Coordinator. Sucharitha R S welcomed the gathering. V. Devadas, Head of the Department of Mathematics delivered the presidential address. Dr. Praveena Vijayan, Principal, Sree Narayana College, Alathur, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and delivered the inaugural address. Dr. Dhiva S, IQAC Coordinator, extended the support of IQAC for the successful organization of the programme. Krishnaprabha R ,Assistant Professor, Dept. of Mathematics delivered felicitation.Vaishnavi S, Assistant Professor, Dept. Of Mathematics deliverd vote of thanks.. The organizing committee comprising Krishnaprabha R, Vaishnavi S, Nandana K Vasudevan, Archana S and Aiswarya K contributed to the effective coordination and smooth conduct of the programme.
The programme featured Mr. Narayana Prasad M, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Government College, Chittur, as the resource person. He interacted with the students and provided valuable insights into the study of Mathematics at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He emphasized the importance of developing a strong conceptual foundation, logical reasoning ability and systematic problem-solving skills. The session encouraged students to look beyond textbook learning and develop curiosity and an analytical approach towards mathematical concepts.
The orientation also focused on helping students make a smooth transition from school-level education to higher education. The resource person highlighted the differences in the approaches to learning Mathematics at different levels and motivated the students to participate actively in classroom discussions, engage in regular practice and make effective use of academic resources. The students were encouraged to develop confidence in tackling mathematical problems and to view challenges in Mathematics as opportunities for intellectual growth and deeper understanding.
The programme provided the first-year students with an opportunity to interact with an experienced academician and gain a broader perspective on their chosen discipline. The session was informative, interactive and motivational, and helped students develop a better understanding of the academic expectations associated with UG and PG Mathematics programmes. It also created awareness among students about the importance of consistent learning, independent thinking and active participation in academic activities.
The Orientation in Mathematics Programme was thus a valuable academic initiative that provided a positive beginning to the student’s journey in higher education. It helped them gain confidence, develop interest in Mathematics and understand the importance of disciplined and continuous learning. The programme successfully fulfilled its objective of introducing the first-year UG and PG students to the academic culture of the Department of Mathematics and motivating them to pursue their studies with enthusiasm, curiosity and commitment.
