The programme aimed to educate the local community about common monsoon-related diseases and the preventive measures necessary to ensure a healthy and safe monsoon season. As part of the programme, students and faculty members of the Department of Zoology distributed awareness pamphlets to households in the areas surrounding the college campus. The pamphlets provided information on common monsoon diseases such as Dengue Fever, Malaria, Typhoid, Diarrhoea and Cholera, Common Cold and Influenza, and Leptospirosis, along with practical preventive measures.
The campaign emphasized the importance of:
• Drinking boiled or purified water.
• Maintaining personal and environmental hygiene.
• Preventing water stagnation around homes.
• Using mosquito nets and repellents.
• Consuming freshly prepared and hygienic food.
• Washing hands regularly with soap.
• Seeking immediate medical attention when symptoms appear.
The awareness programme received an encouraging response from the local residents, who actively interacted with the volunteers and appreciated the initiative undertaken by the department. The activity also provided students with an opportunity to engage with the community and promote health awareness through extension activities.
The programme successfully fulfilled its objective of creating awareness about monsoon diseases and encouraging preventive practices among the public, thereby contributing to the well-being of the community.
