“Know the Symptoms. Stop the Spread.”

Under the banner “Shigella Jagratha” (ഷിഗെല്ല ജാഗ്രത), student volunteers, faculty members, and NSS cadets will visit households throughout Kavassery Panchayath to distribute informative educational pamphlets.

Given that Shigella is a highly contagious bacterial infection causing severe intestinal distress, early detection and hygiene measures remain crucial to preventing local outbreaks. The field team will educate residents on:

  • Key Symptoms: High fever, severe abdominal cramps, nausea, and watery or bloody diarrhea.
  • Modes of Transmission: Consuming contaminated water or food, and person-to-person contact due to poor hand hygiene.
  • Prevention & Safety: Boiled drinking water, frequent handwashing with soap, and strict food sanitation practices.

Institutional Commitment to Social Responsibility

Affiliated with the University of Calicut and accredited with an ‘A’ Grade by NAAC (alongside NIRF and KIIF recognitions), SN College Alathur has a strong legacy of extending academic expertise into community welfare.

By leveraging the scientific background of the Microbiology Department alongside the ground network of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and local Panchayath authorities, the drive aims to equip every household with the knowledge required to safeguard public health.
