Sree Narayana College Alathur to Organise Awareness Programme on Medicinal Plants and Their Significance

The Department of Botany, Sree Narayana College, Alathur, in association with the IQAC and Biodiversity Club, is set to organise an awareness programme titled “ആധുനിക ജീവിത ശൈലിയും ആയുർവേദത്തിന്റെ പ്രസക്തിയും” (Modern Lifestyle and the Relevance of Ayurveda) on 7 August 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in the Botany Laboratory.

The programme aims to create awareness among students about the growing importance of medicinal plants and the relevance of Ayurveda in promoting a healthy lifestyle amidst the challenges of modern living. As lifestyle-related diseases continue to rise, the session seeks to highlight the value of India’s rich traditional medicinal knowledge and the role of herbal remedies in preventive healthcare.

The keynote address will be delivered by Mr. K. Sasi Kumar, Agriculture Officer, Centre for Indian Medical Heritage (CIMH), AVP, Kanjikode, an expert in medicinal plants and traditional healthcare practices. He will provide valuable insights into the medicinal properties of indigenous plants, sustainable conservation of herbal resources, and the practical applications of Ayurveda in daily life.

Participants will gain knowledge about the identification and cultivation of medicinal plants, their therapeutic uses, biodiversity conservation, and the importance of preserving India’s traditional medical heritage for future generations. The session is expected to inspire students to adopt eco-friendly practices and appreciate the scientific relevance of Ayurveda in contemporary healthcare.

The programme is being organised under the guidance of Principal Dr. Praveena Vijayan, with Dr. R. Bindu, Head of the Department of Botany, and Dr. S. Dhiva, IQAC Coordinator. The organising committee comprises Lt. Dr. Shereena J., Prof. (Dr.) Binumol M., Dr. Hansiya V. S., and Dr. Soumya M.

The Department of Botany has invited students, faculty members, and nature enthusiasts to actively participate in this informative programme and benefit from the expertise of the resource person. The organisers are confident that the initiative will strengthen awareness about the importance of medicinal plants, encourage biodiversity conservation, and promote the integration of traditional knowledge with modern scientific understanding.

“Rediscover the healing power of nature—where traditional wisdom meets modern science for a healthier and more sustainable future.”
