Odes and Odysseys – Literary and Cultural Fest
The Postgraduate Department of English, Sree Narayana College, Alathur, in association with the Literary Club, organized its annual literary and cultural fest “Odes and Odysseys” on 19 September 2025 at Gurukripa Hall. The event began at 1:30 PM, drawing enthusiastic participation from students and faculty across departments.
The formal session opened with a prayer, followed by the welcome address delivered by Ms. Maria Joseph (Assistant Professor, Department of English). Ms. Remya Rajan E. (Head of the Department of English) delivered the presidential address, and the event was inaugurated by Smt. Praveena Vijayan (Principal). The Department’s annual magazine Ink & Iris was formally launched during the function. Felicitations were offered by Dr. S. Dhiva (IQAC Coordinator and Head of the Department of Microbiology), Dr. Kokila P. D. (Head of the Department of Malayalam), and Dr. Sowmya C. S. (Senate Member of Calicut University and Head of the Department of Hindi). Afeefa A. (I B.A. Functional English) proposed the vote of thanks, marking the conclusion of the inaugural segment.
Following the formal session, the programme moved into a vibrant array of literary and cultural events. Highlights included the enactment of “The Trial Scene” from The Merchant of Venice by the III B.A. Functional English students, poem recitations, book reviews, dance performances, and a dynamic role play titled Voices of Wasteland. The diversity of performances reflected the creativity and enthusiasm of the students.
The day also witnessed the launch of the department magazine “Ink & Iris”, which showcased the literary and artistic talent of the students. An exhibition arranged by the I B.A. Functional English students in their classroom was a major attraction. The exhibition displayed portraits and information on prominent authors in English literature, along with students’ original artwork, literary quotations, and curated displays, creating an immersive literary experience for visitors.
Adding an element of excitement, the II M.A. English students organized a Treasure Hunt at 1:30 PM. This interactive event proved to be both fun and engaging, drawing participants from multiple departments. The winners of the hunt were the II M.Com students.
