The Department of Chemistry was established in 1970. At the initial stage, it offered courses for first and second group Pre-degree students. When B.Sc Zoology course was introduced in 1977, the department started offering subsidiary course to B.Sc. Zoology students. The department has been handling the core and complementary Chemistry papers of B.Sc. Environment and Water management course since 1998. It also offers Chemistry complementary course to B.Sc. Botany students.
